There is so much discussion about mindset and often when I speak to clients about it their first reflection is that they already have a growth mindset. For me. it is not so evident. Our mindset is the way we think about how we think. Being upbeat and positive all of the time should not be confused with having a good mindset as we can not always control the conditions around us and sometimes for some these can be incredibly bleak.
A fixed mindset is unhelpful as in our most difficult times it can not provide us a way forward. How do we think about the challenges and opportunities that face us?
Shifting that can make significant progress for people.
I work with Nicola Tarry Ballet school to challenge the young dancers there to reflect on their own mindsets. The teenage students exist in a world where the language of perfection is culturally used to incentivise the students to be at their best. Working in conjunction with Nicola it is so important for these young people to expand their minds and strive for excellence which allows expansion and growth beyond the limitations, finality and completion of being perfect. In my coaching I always set the stage for my clients to think about how the journey of improvement will take them beyond what limits of perfection they set for themselves and therefore grow and transform beyond anything they could have imagined.
